Hot Cocoa Bar

Hot Cocoa Bar

Sensory Play

It’s that time of the year when the weather brings us inside to play, being cooped can be rough so I thought it would be fun to come up with some winter themed set-ups.

For my activity, I put together a Hot Cocoa Cloud Dough Sensory Bin. I also like this recipe because it’s taste safe but doesn’t taste sugary for your toddler to want seconds.

What you’ll need:

Instruction to mix the dough:

  1. Combine all ingredients into a bowl and mix to constisy of wet sand.
  2. Use a dash more oil if dough is too dry

After you’ve made the cloud dough simply transfer it to a sensory bin, we use our sensory table that uses the IKEA TROFAST bins. Then top off  the cloud dough with some marshmallows and add some cups and shovels to the bin for more fun!

Cloud dough can get MESSY! I recommend putting some kind of drop cloth under your set-up. Here are a couple of cheap easy drop cloth ideas that I’ve found that can be helpful: store plastic tablecloth, plastic paint drops, my personal favorite a reusable repotting mat  make sure to get 39x39ich to fit under the sensory table. This just helps contain the mess and make clean-up easy!

The kids continued the fun after nap and ended up bringing the hot cocoa cups over to their play kitchen and they make believed it was a coffee shop and had fun making hot cocoa for their animals & baby friends too!

Reminder:  The idea is to let children use their imagination, there is no right or wrong way to play.  All of this is learning through play and learning using fine motor skills.
